Yup, we are back in the Juney and Rose Studio to help with Halloween decorations for 2012. You've never met Juney and Rose but they are one in the same. You might say one always knows what the other is doing. What a hoot !!! Well, Juney and Rose asked if I'd help them make a pumpkin for Halloween, and of course I couldn't say no "of course not".
Well we began with a styrofoam ball and I drew my design on it. Then I asked J & R what they thought and they couldn't stop laughing. I'm not a pro at sculpting with clay, not by a long shot, but what do I have to lose. My grandson says his mouth looks neat. Only time will tell, and he's not painted yet, and we all know looks can be deceiving !
Here is a picture of what was started today. He has to dry for a few days before I add his eyes, and his hat or crown "I haven't decided". I'll be working on him in between my classes with Christy which starts next week. Tell me what you think, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
I've got to come up with a name too, golly what should his name be? Any suggestions?

Upcoming class from CC's Whimsies
CC's Whimsies has a new class starting in June. We'll be making angels this time around. Go to Christy's website and check it out. I did the Lapin class in March and April and had a blast. I didn't know I could sculpt, but by golly, I did it.
The class is very easy to understand and you can stop and start it as you need to or play it over and over as long as the class is available. For those of you who purchased the class but like to procrastinate, you can purchase a DVD of the class giving you the opportunity to sculpt at your own pace with out feeling rushed.
With the'purchase of Christy's class you also will receive a list of the items needed to complete your project. The list will provide all the paints, the type of clay used and embelishments you will need.
You also will have access to Christy's discussion group where you can ask your questions, make comments or just talk to other classmates. They are a great group of ladies and you don't want to miss out on fun do ya....so come on, get mov'n !!!!
Sign up is going on now. Hope to see you in class !!!!
Check out these two sites for more info.
For anyone looking for a new way to express yourselve's, this might be it. You'll never know unless you try.

Yeah, she's finished....
She's done !! Isn't she pretty. My first attempt at sculpting with paperclay.
The journey has been a long one. A journey that I plan to take once again in June.
This is a new experience for me and not an easy one I must say, but I had a blast !!!
Christy does a great job at teaching the class check out her blog for for more details "Where Dreams Have Wings". http://ccswhimsies.blogspot.com/ .
What I liked most about the class is you can stop the video at anytime and start it back up again. You don't have to rush to finish your project, you have a whole month and you can also purchase a DVD of the class as well which is a great.

My sculpting adventure...
This is my first attempt at sculpting and I must admit, it has been a blast. It's not anything at all like I expected. The video made it look so easy, but believe me, looks are deceiving. It is complicated. I had problems with cracking, problems putting the eyes on and when sanding I had to add more clay as I sanded to much clay off and started to see styrofoam. It's really not as easy as I thought !!!
Through it all, I haven't given up and I'm going to make another one and I'm planning to take more classes. If you want to try something new, I would recommend giving this a try.
Here is a picture of my Lapin after sanding. I'm going to start painting next and then staining. I'll be adding more pictures soon. Stay tuned :)

A new year, a new beginning
I turned 54 this month. Another year has past, my hair is grayer and I find that I have wrinkles in places that I didn't know existed. Yet, life goes on and each day is a new experience.
My grandchildren help to keep me young. I have 10 of them, 4 girls, 6 boys , and one more on the way. Yes, that's right # 11 is on it's way, due in October. I'm hoping for a little girl, but of course I'll be happy with either a boy or a girl as long as the little one is healthy.
Crafting has always been a passion of mine. I painted for several years, and wanted to do something different so I tried my hand at sewing. I've always sewed, learning as a young child from my mother and grandmother. Making clothes mostly, skirts and tops, but decided I wanted to try making primitive dolls and creations. In order to sew you have to have needles, thread, sewing machine, cloth, lot's of cloth and many colors of cloth, more cloth than I know what to do with. I've got a collection of cloth that I purchased because I liked the color of it and thought, it would make a great dress for my doll and lets not forget all the patterns that I've purchased. Patterns yet to be opened or printed. And the dolls head is sitting in a basket, the body set beside it and the arms and legs have yet to be made. I made many creations, dolls, crows, pumpkins, etc, but as with painting, I have also lost interest in sewing "for the time being, anyway".
But fret not, I have a new hobby, and oh yes, my husband is just thrilled. He could finally see the top of the dining room table, and sorry to say dear "although I love him dearly, my passions a necessity if I want to remain sane.
So, needless to say, I am now trying my hand at sculpting with clay. My first project is a Lapin bunny. I am taking an online class from Christy at CC's Whimsies. I started my Lapin about 3 weeks ago and I must say it is a lot of work, but work that I so far enjoy.
I've been able to master painting, and sewing, and when I decided to give sculpting a try, I thought, how hard can it be? Well, was I surprised, it's not as easy as it looks, but what fun, it's a blast!!!!
I've completed the ears, face and just finished the eyes today. It has taken me 3 weeks to get this far, it's really not easy, but I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a good time. It's stressful, but relaxing at the same time. The best part about it, if you make a mistake, you can fix it!!!!
My eyes are drying right now and hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to start sanding him. Until then I have to watch him dry...patience is not something I'm good at.
For anyone who wants to try sculpting Christy has another class coming up in the next few months. If you go to her blog at http://ccswhimsies.blogspot.com/ you can find out more about it. You can also check out http://rosesonmytable.ning.com/ for more information about upcoming classes.
